What’s on this weekend? (10-11 May)

The weather forecast may not be filled with good cheer for this weekend ahead, but there are some great free events on offer locally to keep you and your kids amused, rain or shine! Here’s our round-up of local ideas for families in Twickenham, Richmond, teddington and nearby areas.



Top weekend tips

Whatson-May-2014-2Our first ‘top tip’ for the weekend is Richmond May Fair on Saturday. This annual free event takes place on Richmond Green and always attracts a big crowd. It’s a traditional spring fair, with a carousel, lots of stalls, live music and more. Read more

Our second ‘top tip’ for Saturday is a Family Friendly Lecture by Sir David Attenborough, also taking place in Richmond. The lecture is entitled “What was that?” and Sir David will be ‘speaking’ to Patagonian woodpeckers and revealing the treacherous communication of fireflies. Suitable for anyone aged 8+. Tickets can be purchased by email or phone. Read more.

Moving onto Sunday, our first tip is to make your way to Bushy Park in Teddington for the annual Chestnut Sunday Parade. This free event starts at 12:30pm and includes displays by historical re-enactors, horses, classic cars and lots more- plus there us a traditional carousel and other family fun. Read more

Last but not least is the May Fun Day in Crane Park, This is run by the River Crane Community Project and will include free fun for all of the family, with a treasure hunt, demonstrations, boat-making and more. Read more

Ideas from our what’s on calendar

Our calendar is full of everyday ideas for things to do, rain or shine. This weekend, creative kids can enjoy arts and crafts at Beany Boos in Whitton, Richmond Pottery Café and ‘Dad Day’ with under 11s in Richmond.

There’s drama and singing on offer with Dramacube, Perform Drama Classes, Poppet theatre and Popin Theatre – as well as Ritz Kids Voices in Richmond.

Sporty fun can be had at Half Backs Rugby for ages 2 – 7 in Marble Hill Park. Plus there is Little Kickers and Little Rugby and Toddler fun time. Bigger kids can enjoty family roller disco at Orleans Park Sports Centre and Marble Hill Playcentres Adventure Playground.

Last but not least, parents can pick up great bargains at the NCT sale in Kew, and the various local markets in Richmond and Twickenham.
