Dramacube Productions

Over the past four years, hundreds of children have enjoyed being part of Dramacube and we’ve had the pleasure of seeing so many of them really develop their social skills, whilst becoming very accomplished young actors, singers and dancers. This summer however we decided to raise the bar…

It was our first day of rehearsal on the main stage at Hampton Hill Theatre. The young cast spilled on to the stage, excited and energized. The enthusiasm already plausible as each student bounced in through the stage door and laid claim to their seat in the dressing room. We’ve always enjoyed the buzz of working with students on a project but this was our first major production and the atmosphere in the theatre was like no other we’d previously experienced.

Fame

As a business you start with what you believe to be important and it has always been our aim to provide young people with the best possible experience we can. We want children to walk away from our projects feeling fantastic about what they have achieved and to have a sense of pride and confidence. We’ve seen this consistently over the past four years but we wanted to raise the bar. We wanted to push the boundaries further and find a way of working which would be even more fun and even more rewarding.

We knew that if we could enrich the experience further we’d reach a new level and students participating would give more, and most importantly, gain more.

We started with buying the rights to Fame JR so that every student had the official Broadway script and music. We hired the main stage at the amazing Hampton Hill Theatre for a week so that we had the best rehearsal and performance space, and we brought in a director from the West End and put together a brilliant creative team to ensure students worked with professional musicians, choreographers & designers.

fame-2The whole project was a huge investment of time and energy but, from start to finish, it paid off. The cast had all learned their lines in advance, there was an electric atmosphere in the theatre for the whole week and each morning the students would bring something new to the production and build on all the good work they’d done the previous day.

As an onlooker it was inspiring to see a group of young people (ranging from 7 to 16 years) so motivated and committed and it came as no surprise that the performances on the final show were truly outstanding. This incredible group of young performers had come together for just one week and created a brilliant show.

We’d achieved everything we’d set out to do and the students who had shared in this experience had all grown in confidence, developed as performers and enjoyed a whole week of brilliant fun! The only question remaining from the cast was “What’s next?”
